Mission Statement

The Caledonian Society of New Orleans' purpose is to study, preserve, teach and present the culture, history, heraldry, pageantry, music, literature, crafts and all of the arts of Scotland and the Isles.

To sponsor a Scottish Pipe Band and to grant Scholarships in piping, drumming and dancing that will perpetuate our heritage among the younger generation of Scots in our Society.

 

CALEDONIAN SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES

(SCOTLAND, SCOTS, SCOTCH – IRISH) SCOTTISH country dancing, BAGPIPE bands, HIGHLAND dancing, CELTIC Harp and SCOTTISH FiddleOrchestra represent some of our regular activities,

while Highland games & Celtic festival participation, Scottish Teas, Robert Burns Suppers, Kirkin o’ the Tartan services, and National Tartan Day and “Ceilidh” celebrations, represent some of our regular events, of Scottish / Scotch-Irish heritage in southeast Louisiana. Our performances include retirement homes and schools as well as Trinity Episcopal Church - Independence Day, N. O. Jazz Fest, New Orleans Museum of Art (Scottish Treasures Exhibition, etc.), the NATPE Convention (Tartan TV), Mardi Gras parades, ie. Rex, Zulu, Babylon, Thoth and Orpheus (North Shore) and WWL-TV, Channel 4.

Since Hurricane Katrina, The Caledonian Society of New Orleans has been moving “forward together,” creating this website and reestablishing the variety of activities, which have made us such a vibrant representative of Scottish, Scotch-Irish and Scottish-American culture which makes-up much of America’s heartland as well as Southern culture.
